The business has been in existence since 2018 operating in Thabazimbi. The business is a fast-food restaurant, the products of the business include hot chips, chicken, Kotas, sandwiches, burgers, pap, steak and cool drinks. The business’s core values are as follows: customer satisfaction, commitment to quality, sustainability, social responsibility, and job creation. The business also offers catering services targeting local events, government and private organisations including state owned entities and mining houses.
Challenges/Needs: Ms Patricia Mokwena contacted Sedfa needing assistance to grow her business. She needed assistance with business development services. Through Sedfa’s assessment of business operations, the following development aspects were identified: Lack of Financial Management skills that hindered business growth including challenges in delivering orders due to lack of finances, as a results of poor management skills. Lack of funding to purchase catering equipment. The business does not have any financial systems in place. Inability to maximise the market share due to lack of signage and other marketing materials.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: The client was enrolled in a 3-day intensive Financial Management training and 5-day Business Planning Workshop.
Financial Management System implementation intervention.
Facilitation of access to funding from our Lending and Investment Division.
Branding intervention with signage and other marketing materials to improve visibility to local markets, and professional image of the business.
Outcome Details: As a result of training, financial management skills improved and thereby ensuring proper handling of the business finances, and the confidence to seek more procurement opportunities.
The Financial Management System improved record-keeping and allowed for easy submission of quotes, invoices, and statements through the Point-of-Sale System.
The business was approved for an amount of R266 999.78, of which R100 000 was a grant from our Lending and Investment Division.
Annual turnover increased from R540,154.88to R1,067,136.97, a 98% growth.
The business created 2 jobs and sustained 3, bringing total employment of 5.
