Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: Financial Management System – Office Manager:
SEDFA supported Onka Lodge by implementing the Office Manager Financial Management System to improve the financial management of the business. The system automated bookkeeping processes, improved record keeping, and ensured accurate financial reporting. This enabled the owner to monitor revenue, expenses, and cash flow more effectively. The system also improved compliance with financial reporting requirements and helped the owner make informed business decisions. Training was provided to ensure that the system is used effectively and that financial records are maintained consistently.

Access to funding:
Through SEDFA’s Asset Assist Programme, Onka Lodge received funding of R243 446.00 to purchase essential assets for the guest house. The funding was used to acquire guest house furniture, kitchen equipment, and other operational equipment. This support enabled the business to furnish the newly built guest rooms and improve the overall quality of services provided to guests.

Guest House Star Grading:
SEDFA also assisted Onka Lodge with the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) grading process. The lodge successfully obtained a 3-star grading, which confirms that the business meets important hospitality standards related to service quality, facilities, and safety. This grading has improved the credibility of the business and positioned it to work with travel agencies, corporate clients, and government departments.
Outcome Details: The support provided by SEDFA has significantly improved the operations and growth potential of the business. The implementation of the financial management system strengthened financial control and improved record keeping, allowing the owner to manage the business more efficiently. The equipment purchased through the Asset Assist Programme enabled the business to fully utilise its newly built guest rooms and enhance the guest experience. Obtaining the 3-star grading has increased the credibility and visibility of Onka Lodge, creating opportunities to attract more customers and secure bookings from travel agencies, corporate clients, and government departments. These improvements have contributed to the sustainability and growth of the business. These strategic improvements have directly contributed to the sustainability and growth of the business, reflected in an increase in annual turnover from R594,140 to R630,153.
