Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: The business provides express personal care services such as massages, nail treatments, and other rejuvenating grooming services for travelers.
Challenges/Needs: An assessment conducted by Sedfa revealed that the business was experiencing challenges in meeting the needs of travellers who required quick and convenient pampering services without the need to change into gowns or disrupt their travel schedules. Many passengers preferred minimal yet relaxing services that could be accessed easily while in transit. To better accommodate this demand and enhance the comfort of travellers, the business identified the need to introduce specialised massage chairs that would allow clients to enjoy relaxing treatments in a convenient and time-efficient manner. Identified challenges: • Limited-service options for travellers who prefer quick pampering without changing into gowns. • The need to enhance passenger comfort through more convenient and accessible service equipment. • Lack of specialised massage chairs to accommodate travellers seeking express relaxation services.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: To address the identified challenges, Yemaya received support through Sedfa’s Asset Assist Programme to the value of R244 500.00. The funding enabled the business to purchase five specialised massage chairs, which were introduced to enhance the convenience and accessibility of its services for travellers.
The addition of the massage chairs allowed the business to offer quick and comfortable relaxation services that do not require travellers to change into gowns, making the services more suitable for passengers who are in transit or have limited time. This intervention improved the overall customer experience and enabled the business to attract more travellers seeking convenient wellness services within the airport environment, thereby strengthening its market appeal and improving its overall business outlook.
Outcome Details: The following outcomes were achieved through Sedfa’s assistance:
• Revenue increased by R172,472.60, from R1,109,590.00 to R1,282,062.60, representing a 15.54% increase in turnover.
• The number of employees increased from 9 to 11, representing a 22% increase in employment, as the business expanded its operations to accommodate growing customer demand.
